In the aftermath of the recent NSW election, my staff and I have had a number of inquiries in relation to the Regional Seniors Card. The $250 card was one of the NSW Government's campaign platforms because we know that travel is one of the most significant household costs faced by seniors living in rural and regional NSW, due to lengthy distances and fewer transport options.

Understandably, people have wanted to know when the cards will be rolled out and I actually like that constituents are keeping us accountable for promises made during the campaign.
To ease the burden on regional seniors, the NSW Government will implement the Regional Seniors Transport Card. This will provide eligible recipients with $250 a year under the program for the purchase of fuel and taxi services from participating providers in rural and regional NSW, as well as pre-booked NSW TrainLink services.
As per our commitment, eligible seniors who reside in regional NSW, and are either aged pensioners or Commonwealth Senior Health Card holders, can take advantage of the new Regional Seniors Transport Card from 1 January 2020.
This timeline allows us the chance to work out the best way to oversee the rollout of the program to ensure it is fair for everyone.
But one thing we do know already is that eligible seniors are not required to hold a driver's licence or own a vehicle to qualify for the Regional Seniors Transport Card.
The NSW Government will work in partnership with providers to ensure there is as much coverage as possible - whilst keeping focussed on improving the mobility of seniors. The Regional Seniors Transport Card will make it easier and more affordable for seniors in regional communities to access essential services and assist with day-to-day activities, such as doctor appointments and visiting friends and family.
Anzac day service
I hope everyone had an enjoyable Easter break and would like to urge residents across the length and breadth of the Dubbo electorate to attend an ANZAC Day service this Thursday. The legacy left by our former and current military personnel is the catalyst for the wonderful society we live in, and commemorating the sacrifice of so many people is a wonderful opportunity for everyone to realise how lucky we really are.
