"Everyone loves Harold," Mr Apps said.
"I had one person who wanted to buy merchandise for a 21st present; Harold seems to be a lingering memory associated with healthy lifestyles.
"I heard another story from a mother who said that her children didn't smoke because they remembered the statistics they had learnt at the Life Education van."
Mr Apps visits up to 50 schools in the Orana region and believes that much of the success of the charity comes back to the members of each community who volunteer to help.
Wellington Council drives the van when it comes to town, while in Dubbo, the Lions Club volunteers.
Most recently Samsung made a large contribution to Life Education in Australia. Harold paid a visit this week to Wellington Public School and St Mary's Catholic School.
